We then started linking to our web site directly from the eBay auctions we put up but the eBay copycats came even faster and in many more numbers. The complaints to eBay were so large in number that eBay changed their policy so that diet products could no longer be sold on their featured auctions.
The success of The Negative Calorie Diet ended almost as fast as it started. Remember, we only created the web site so that prospective buyers of The Negative Calorie Diet could see that we were in fact the originators… And while this effort certainly helped buyers figure out who to purchase The Negative Calorie Diet from, eBay received too many complaints about all those copycats so they shut The Negative Calorie Diet down from their auctions.
About a month later, we just happened by the post office to send off some personal mail… When we created our web site, we had no idea that the web site itself would actually pull in some orders… As stated above, the web site was created to show prospective buyers that we were the originators of the product… Nothing more.
We obtained a completely separate post office box for the web site but never once thought we’d actually make any sales from The Negative Calorie Diet web site. After sending off our personal mail, we walked by the post office box and decided to check the contents just on the off-chance that someone had actually sent us an order. Please make note that at that particular time, we couldn’t even process credit card orders because we didn’t know how!
We opened the post office box and it was completely STUFFED with orders! As a matter of fact, as we began pulling out the envelopes, a couple of them fell through on the other side. Apparently, a post office employee either heard or witnessed the falling mail and stuck his face next to the post office box and asked, “Is this your post office box?”
Of course it was and we said that it was and he then asked us to come around to the employee entrance… We did what he asked assuming he was simply going to hand us the fallen mail… However, as he opened up the door, he also lifted up a huge mail bag full of even more orders!
768 orders to be exact. No wonder they wouldn’t all fit in the post office box! We had no idea that we had created such a monster. We took the mail bag out to our car — emptied the contents of the mail bag into the back seat and gave the mail bag back to the post office worker.
The was just the beginning of The Negative Calorie Diet. Since then, we’ve been copied and infringed upon more than any business should ever be. So many illegal copies of our eBook have been sold that we will never ever be able to recoup those losses. The best we can do is to shut down unlawful sales of The Negative Calorie Diet when we find them or our affiliates find them and notify us. Since 1997, we’ve managed to shut down literally hundreds of illegal sellers of our product.
